Welcome home to
home theater

By David Joel

"Theater" is no longer a generic term to characterize a concrete building with tiered seating playing the newest in film releases. In recent days, designers have revitalized the term to represent a lair for sensory viewing experiences inside the home.

Newly popularized home theaters offer the picture and sound quality of the best theater venue, with all of the comforts of home. They move the audience away from uncomfortable seats and over-priced sweets and onto comfortable couches inside their personal space where they can enjoy popcorn popped to their personal taste and a place to put up their feet.

The basic electronic ingredients for a home theater are a large-screen television, a DVD player, and quality surround amplifiers and speakers, including a subwoofer to animate room-shaking car crashes. But the home theater is much more than electronics. It is more about the design.

A home theater should be beautiful, intimate and versatile. It's about creating comfort and crafting a system for light control and acoustics. Fabric selections are a brilliant way to stylishly accomplish the perfect setting. Soft fabrics, heavy draperies with blackout panels, and warm colors are all fantastic choices that absorb light and sound, and add a certain desired drama to the space.

On a quiet evening for two, or for attracting a cherished crowd, a home theater truly opens new doors in entertainment.

What's driving the newest looks in home fashions?
By Debbie McKirahan,

The love of sanctuary creates a style that's carefree and warm.

These days, dull just won't do. Designers are pulling out their Crayola Crayons® and filling their collections with a rainbow of hues – soft greens, raspberry pinks, playful yellows and aquatic blues. The result is a feeling that's carefree and warm. Slightly retro, there's a revival of patterned fabrics and designs the bring personality and playfulness into the home.

The outside world has taken on a serious undertone and people are trying to counterbalance this in their homes by incorporating designs that are emotional, expressive and energetic. Sanctuary style should generate a feel-good emotion that makes your home a place to draw out the spirit of optimism in everyone who enters.
